Yesterday, July 4, 2016, we celebrated Independence Day, commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, by the Continental Congress. Incorporated in that document is the statement “Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.”
Today, we learned just how far from that ideal we have strayed. FBI Director James Comey announced today that the FBI has concluded its investigation and will not recommend charges against former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for using multiple private email servers to store, send and receive top secret, classified information even though “There is evidence they [Clinton and staff] were extremely careless in their handling of classified information”.
This is same day that Hillary Clinton and James Comey’s ultimate boss, Barack Obama, campaigned together in North Carolina. The day after word went out that Hillary Clinton might retain James Comey’s boss, Loretta Lynch, as Attorney General. The week after James Comey’s boss, Attorney General Loretta Lynch, met with former president Bill Clinton. Have these people no shame?
Comey did clarify that “To be clear, this is not to suggest that in similar circumstances, a person who engaged in this activity would face no consequences. To the contrary, those individuals are often subject to security or administrative sanctions. But that is not what we are deciding now.”
In other words, the “fix is in.”
Do you think any of the governed would consent to the unequal application of law based on the accused’s status within government, society or the economy?
I think not.
I think Glenn McCoy nailed it!!
