Brady Hoke – Michigan Man

by on Mar.31, 2011, under Michigan

It appears that Brady Hoke took the Michigan job without knowing what his comp package would be.

As a Michigan alumnus and fan, I love that kind of passion.

Who is John Galt?

by on Mar.27, 2011, under Political

If you have read Ayn Rand’s Atlas Shrugged, you certainly know who John Galt is.  For those of you who have not read Ms. Rand’s magnum opus, you have the chance to learn the identity of the mysterious John Galt on April 15, with the opening of the movie, Atlas Shrugged Part I.

I read Atlas Shrugged a couple of years ago and was amazed at how prescient Ms. Rand was 52 years ago when this book was first published.  Needless to day, I will be at the theater to see this film and will probably offer to pay for all my kids to see it as well.  I am stoked!

Say What??

by on Mar.22, 2011, under Political

I have bit my tongue and held off from claiming President Obama is out to ruin this country, but I can’t take it any more.  This week, during his jaunt to Brazil, he made the following statement regarding development of offshore drilling in Brazil:

“We want to help you with the technology and support to develop these oil reserves safely. And when you’re ready to start selling, we want to be one of your best customers. At a time when we’ve been reminded how easily instability in other parts of the world can affect the price of oil, the United States could not be happier with the potential for a new, stable source of energy.”

He made this statement while we are in the midst of a 7 year ban on offshore drilling off of both coasts, on Alaska’s continental shelf and in much of the Gulf of Mexico.  If President Obama is a hard-core environmentalist, then he should be against development of fossil fuels anywhere, and conversely, pushing for green energy development everywhere.

So if President Obama is not a died in the (green) wool environmentalist, what would be his motivation to support a job creating industry which could alleviate some of our energy dependence in a country other than our own? Perhaps he doesn’t want the U.S. to be the alpha-dog any longer and he is trying to bring us down a couple of rungs on the ladder.

What do you think?

by on Mar.02, 2011, under Cycling

Yesterday (12/22), I hit 10,000 miles ridden for 2010.  What a year of ups and downs on the bike!

What an amazing year this has been for cycling!  This has been the best/worst year of my life.

He STILL Doesn’t Get It!

by on Nov.04, 2010, under Political

Yesterday, President Obama gave a press conference in which he took responsibility for the “shellacking” the Dems took at the polls on Tuesday.  Although he appeared conciliatory and offered to compromise on certain items, he proved that he STILL doesn’t get it when he said:

“We’d be misreading the election if we thought that the American people want to see us for the next two years re-litigate arguments that we had over the last two years.”

Call me a mis-reader, but that is EXACTLY what the American people want.  Scott Rasmussen reports 58% of likely U.S. voters favor repeal of the measure, including 45% who strongly favor it.  This sounds like a lot of re-litigating to me!

The Thug in Chief

by on Oct.26, 2010, under Political

There was a day when the President of the United States was a statesman, a leader who served all the citizens of this great country.  Sadly, that day is gone.  The last one was January 19, 2009, President George W. Bush’s last full day in office.

The next day, Barack Obama brought his thuggish Chicago style politics to the office of President.  He’s tried to position himself above the fray, but clearly he is the instigator behind the take no prisoners march to socialism which has brought us the (failed) stimulus, Obamacare, financial reform, ownership of GM and Chrysler, pending cap and trade legislation, etc.  Fortunately (and surprisingly), the Republicans have (for the most part) stood united against this government takeover of every aspect of our lives.  The Tea Party movement has helped the wayward Republicans begin to find their way again and that has been a very good thing for this country.

However, the return of this country to its conservative roots is a major hindrance to our President and his socialist agenda.  It has brought out his true colors, and they are not red, white and blue.  As reported by the New York Times:

In a radio interview that aired on Univision on Monday, Mr. Obama sought to assure Hispanics that he would push an immigration overhaul after the midterm elections, even though he has not been able to attract Republican support.

“If Latinos sit out the election instead of saying, ‘We’re going to punish our enemies and we’re gonna reward our friends who stand with us on issues that are important to us,’ if they don’t see that kind of upsurge in voting in this election, then I think it’s going to be harder and that’s why I think it’s so important that people focus on voting on November 2.”

Referring specifically to Republicans such as Senator John McCain, who formerly supported an overhaul but now are stressing border security and supporting strict immigration laws like Arizona’s anti-illegal immigration measure, Mr. Obama said, “Those aren’t the kinds of folks who represent our core American values.”

The President is so wrong here on so many levels.  First of all, people who disagree with the President are not enemies.  People who try to kill us, like radical Muslims, are enemies.  But you will never hear this President call radical  Muslims our enemies.  It appears that only conservatives and Tea Party members are worthy of being called enemies.  What happened to the new kind of leader who was going to bring the country together?  That was pure BS, as evidenced by his “I won” statement his second full day in office.

Secondly, we do not need immigration overhaul until we have border security.  BUILD THE FENCE!!  Heck, the Mexicans are building a fence between themselves and Guatemala.  Why should we not do the same?

Finally, who is Barack Obama to tell anyone that John McCain does not “represent our core American values”?  There are a lot of things with which I don’t agree with John McCain, but I have never questioned his core American values.  Where was Barack Obama when John McCain spent 5 1/2 years in the Hanoi Hilton and refused early release when offered because the NV wouldn’t release every other man captured before him?  Would our narcissistic leader have shown such restraint and honor?  I think not.

I’m hopeful the American people will send a message to this President next Tuesday and that message will be “You lost.”
